Chocolate Chip Scones
Ingredients:
- 2 Cups Flour
- 3 Tablespoons sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/2 semi sweet chocolate chips
Directions:
1. Heat oven to 425 degrees and grease baking sheet
2. In large bowl combine flour and sugar, cut in shortening till mixture resembles course crumbs.
3. In small bowl combine milk, egg, and vanilla. Add to dry ingredients along with the chips and mix with fork until mixture clings together and forms a soft dough. Turn dough out onto lightly floured surface and knead gently 5 or 6 times.
4. With lightly floured rolling pin, roll dough into a 7 inch round. (I just made the round with my hands and didn't need the rolling pin)
5. Recipe calls for cutting the round into 4 wedges but I cut it into 8.
6. Place scones, 1 inch apart on greased baking sheet. Pierce tops with tines of fork.
7. Bake scones 18 to 20 minutes or until golden brown. I baked mine 14 minutes.
Not real sweet but delicious.
Both Ken and I like them and will be making them again.
You could probably drizzle some icing sugar icing on them.
My BIL loves scones and I also have a chocolate chip scone recipe that he enjoys. I usually make them for his birthday in March♥My recipe is similar to this one. Thanks for sharing it, Karen.
